From Biomass to ASTM-Certified Renewable Oil
As industries and governments seek practical solutions to reduce emissions and divert waste from landfills, converting biomass into renewable fuels has become an increasingly important part of the energy transition. The KUMUL process provides a fully integrated pathway that transforms organic waste into high-quality renewable oil, creating value from materials that would otherwise be discarded.
Step 1. Biomass Supply
The process begins with the collection of biomass feedstock. The KUMUL system is designed to accept a wide variety of organic materials, including agricultural residues, forestry waste, municipal green waste, sewage sludge, and other biomass streams. By utilizing existing waste resources, the system helps reduce landfill disposal while creating a renewable energy source.
Step 2. Pre-Treatment
Before entering the reactor, the biomass undergoes pre-treatment to ensure consistent quality and prepare the material for conversion. This stage optimizes moisture content and particle size, allowing the system to operate efficiently and maximize renewable oil production.
Step 3. Steam Injection & Pyrolysis
The prepared biomass enters the KUMUL Reactor, where controlled steam injection initiates the pyrolysis process. Unlike combustion, pyrolysis converts organic material into energy-rich compounds without burning it, significantly reducing emissions while preserving valuable hydrocarbons that can be upgraded into renewable fuel.
Step 4. Pyrolysis Oil Collection
The reactor produces raw pyrolysis oil, an intermediate renewable fuel containing valuable organic compounds. This oil is collected and prepared for the final upgrading stage, where it is refined into a commercially usable product.
Steps 5 & 6. Catalytic Upgrading
The raw pyrolysis oil passes through the proprietary KUMUL Catalyst Column, where advanced catalytic technology removes impurities and upgrades the fuel to meet ASTM D8071 and ASTM D8519 specifications. The result is a high-quality renewable oil suitable for industrial and commercial applications.
The catalyst system continuously monitors process gases and supports efficient regeneration, ensuring consistent performance and long-term operational reliability.
A Modular Solution for Global Deployment
Every KUMUL system is built as a fully automated, modular skid that can be transported and deployed virtually anywhere in the world. This modular design reduces installation time, simplifies maintenance, and allows facilities to scale renewable fuel production based on local biomass availability.
Combined with green electricity, the KUMUL process delivers a carbon-neutral operating footprint while helping industries transform waste into a valuable energy resource. By integrating advanced pyrolysis, catalytic upgrading, and intelligent automation, the KUMUL platform offers a scalable pathway toward cleaner energy and a more circular economy.
